Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a common, chronic and painful disease.

This involves the formation of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterus, causing inflammation, pain, and scarring. These lesions can occur in the abdominal cavity or even outside it. Typical locations include the ovaries, the intestines and bladder, or the lungs.

The main symptom is severe pain, especially during menstruation. Abdominal pain unrelated to menstruation, as well as pain during sexual intercourse, bowel movements, and urination, can also occur.
The disease frequently occurs in women between the ages of 25 and 35 and tends to run in families. Approximately 7 to 10 percent of women of childbearing age are affected. Treatment options include pain medications, hormone therapy, and surgery. Diagnosis alone should be made early – also to alleviate avoidable suffering.

Typical symptoms

  • Severe period pain, which often interferes with normal everyday life.
  • Pain during sexual intercourse (before, during or after sexual intercourse).
  • unfulfilled desire to have children / infertility / sterility.
  • Endometriosis can affect fertility.
  • Other symptoms such as fatigue, diarrhea or constipation, bladder pain

In accordance with the recommendations of the German Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (DEGUM), gynecologist Manuela Franke has received special training in transvaginal sonography of endometriosis and supports her in non-invasive diagnosis and assessment of the extent of the disease.

Dr. Michael Sroka supports you as a pain therapist within the framework of multimodal pain therapy with the goal of achieving the best possible pain control.
